Youth Mentoring Programs

MCS has provided services to numerous non-profit organizations, government agencies and organizations in creating new mentoring programs and strengthenng existing ones tailored to the specific requirements of targeted youth population. The technical assistance provided includes the full range of services from program planning, design, training and evaluation as noted below:

Guidance to program administrators regarding program goals, content, methods, procedures, training content, staffing, resources, organizational readiness, and strategies to achieve meaningful outcomes;

Listed below are examples of mentoring initiatives with descriptions of specific services provided that enhanced program operations.

National Federation of the Blind, National Mentoring
Program in Excellence

MCS served has the training consultant to the National Center for Mentoring Excellence. Responsible for providing technical assistance in the design, development , implementation of a comprehensive one- to- one mentoring model that connected young blind and visually impaired youth and young adults, with successful blind role models. Clara developed customer specific training through research and living with the prospective mentees/mentors in their environment. Subsequently she has provided support services to this unique program which has been sustained and is being replicated throughout the country.

Lockheed Martin Corporation

Clara was the principal consultant to Lockheed Martin Corporation in their implementation of a youth mentoring program model administered by regional offices across the country in partnership with Lockheed and public schools systems. The mentoring program model was designed to support the public school curriculum and enhance the academic performance of students in grades K-12.

Consultant services included:

-Provided technical assistance to the Project Director
-Designing the Mentor Handbook
-Delivering the Train –the- Trainer workshop for Regional Program Coordinators

Federal Government Student Mentoring Programs in Partnership with Baltimore City, County and the District of Columbia Public School Systems

Designed, implemented and coordinated the following work place youth mentoring programs for high school students.

--Social Security Administration: SSA’s Student Mentoring Program
in partnership with the Baltimore County and City Public Schools

--Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services: The Student Career Academy Youth Initiative in Partnership with the Patterson High School

--Bureau of Public Health Services: Partnership with Eastern High School , Washington, DC
